Northern Chapter Trailing Camp

The BWNC will be holding our second trailing camp of the year on April 8 & 9 in the Sacramento area.  Our base camp location will be at Gibson Ranch, 8556 Gibson Ranch Rd, Elverta, CA 95626 (www.gibsonranchpark.com).

The fee for the camp is $35/dog for one day or $50/dog for both days.  All fees will be used to support our Trailing Trial in the fall.  Gibson Ranch charges a per car facility parking fee of $5 each day.  There are restroom facilities on the premises.

EEC tests can be offered on Sunday if any are interested in taking the test.  Please let us know as soon as possible if you plan to take the test on Sunday.  You will need your dog's AKC registration number for the EEC test form.  There is a $10 fee for the EECT, payable to the American Bloodhound Club.

The camp is rain or shine.  The current forecast is for dry weather that weekend, but keep an eye on weather reports for changes.  I plan to have the club pop up tents there for sun/rain protection.  Bring your camp chairs for seating.  Lunch is not provided, so you will need to bring a lunch or go to a local fast food joint as desired.

Several people have asked about hotels in the area.  There are a fair number of hotels relatively close to Gibson Ranch.  Here are 3 that I am pretty sure always allow dogs.  I did not check with other hotels/motels in the area.  You will want to verify that dogs are allowed, when you book reservations.

June 2016 Tracking Camp

BWNC will be holding a tracking camp in San Jose, CA.  Barbara Adcock has agreed to train us on the fundamentals of AKC regulation tracking, which differs from ABC mantrailing in that your bloodhound will need to stay on the exact trail, and must identify scent articles dropped at the end of the trail, or along the way, depending on the test level.  The tracks have to meet certain layout requirements, and there will be no person hiding at the end of the trail.

The tracking camp will take place on Saturday June 4th and Sunday June 5th, 2016.  We will meet at Evergreen Valley College, Student Parking Lot 7, located at 3095 Yerba Buena Road, San Jose, CA 95135.  We will start at 8 a.m.  The college does charge a $3.00 day use fee for the parking lot on Saturday.  There is no parking fee on Sunday.

The fee for the camp is $35 per dog for one day, or $50 per dog if you attend both days.  We are actively exploring the possibility of hosting a specialty tracking test next year, which will give bloodhounds entry priority over other breeds.  We will use all camp proceeds to support a BWNC tracking test.

Be prepared for warm weather.  Have water and a cool coat for your dog.  We’ll have the club shade tents available if we are out in the open.  We will break for a no host lunch about midway.

May 2016 Trailing Camp

BWNC will be holding our next trailing camp on May 28 and 29, 2016.  While not specifically designed for beginner dogs, like our last trailing camp, beginners are always welcome.  We will meet at the "Duck Pond" parking lot (412 Aviation Blvd., Santa Rosa, CA  95403) at 8 a.m. and will proceed to trail locations from there.

The cost of the camp is $35 per dog if you attend only one day, or $50 per dog if you attend both days.  All camp proceeds will be used to support our November Trailing Trial, which has been applied for and is currently awaiting ABC approval (mark your calendars for November 5 & 6 as the tentative dates, again, pending ABC approval).

We will break around mid-day for a no-host lunch.  Please bring something to eat and drink for your lunch, or you can get something from one of the many local fast-food restaurants.  We should be done around 4 p.m. each day.

Remember to bring your trailing gear, camp chairs, water and possible cool coats for your dogs, depending on weather.  If expected to be hot, we will bring the club shade tents.

Let me know if you plan to attend, so that we can get a feel for how many dogs will be participating.  AS ALWAYS, WE COULD DESPERATELY USE VOLUNTEERS WHO WILL NOT BE HANDLING DOGS TO BE OUR TRAIL RUNNERS.  Please consider being a runner if you are not busy that weekend.

The PRBC's Trailing Trial in Enumclaw, WA is less than 4 months away (August 20 & 21, 2016), so if you plan to enter, this would be good practice for that event before the weather gets too warm.

We are looking forward to a fun time.  Hope to see you there.

Our June trailing camp will be held on the weekend of June 27 & 28, 2015.  We will meet at Pat Moffitt's house (1399 Sanders Road, Windsor, CA  95492) at 8 a.m. and will proceed to trail locations from there.

The cost of the camp is $35 per dog if you attend only one day, or $50 per dog if you attend both days.  All camp proceeds will go towards our November Trailing Trial (ABC approval pending).

We will break around mid-day for a no-host lunch.  Please bring something to eat and drink for your lunch, or you can get something from one of the many local fast-food restaurants.  We should be done around 4 p.m. each day.  There is space at Pat's house for tents, trailers, or RV's, but please contact Pat beforehand to confirm there is room available (mantrker@aol.com).  There are also a number of hotels in Santa Rosa if you choose to stay in the area overnight.

Remember your trailing gear, water and possible cool coats for your dogs.  The temperature in Windsor can get warm in June.

Please let Aldo Branch (abranchsj@hotmail.com) know if you plan to attend, so that we can get a feel for how many dogs will be participating.  We also welcome anyone interested in participating as a trail layer, so feel free to bring your friends or family.
